Gas Tech 3 Program Overview
Every gas technician in Ontario starts here. The Gas Technician 3 license is the first rung on the ladder toward building a successful career in the gas trade, and the training you complete now helps set up everything that follows.
A G3 certification is the mandatory starting point required by Ontario gas technician regulations. This pathway provides students with the legal foundation they need to begin working under the supervision of a licensed G2 or G1 technician while building the skills, confidence, and technical knowledge to keep moving forward in the trade.
At Skilled Trades College, the TSSA Gas Technician 3 course is designed for students who are ready to do more than sit through basic classroom theory. With practical, career-focused training, students can begin building real trade knowledge that supports their next step, whether they’re interested in HVAC, plumbing, gas fitting, or continuing on to future G2 training.
You don’t need prior experience, just a willingness to learn a stable, skilled trade! Enroll in one of the best Gas Technician 3 training programs in Ontario today.

A G3 gas license is the entry-level certification for working with natural gas and propane appliances in Ontario. You earn it after completing approved TSSA training and passing the required provincial qualification exam.
With a G3 license, you can work under the direct supervision of a G2 or G1 licensed technician on gas-fired equipment like furnaces, water heaters, fireplaces, stoves, pool heaters, dryers, and more.
Think of it as your license to start. Your gas 3 license opens the door, and each level after it raises what you can do and what you can earn.
They’re the three levels of gas licensing. G3 is entry-level (work under supervision). G2 lets you work independently on appliances up to 400,000 BTUh. G1 removes the size limit. You start at G3 and upgrade with training and experience.
Yes. A G3 license can be a valuable asset for students interested in other trades, especially HVAC, plumbing, appliance service, and mechanical work. Because gas systems often connect to heating equipment, appliances, piping, and building systems, Gas Technician 3 training can help students build a stronger technical foundation and open the door to additional training pathways at Skilled Trades College.
While an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent is standard, mature students (ages 18+) who do not have a diploma can often take a qualifying entrance assessment. Contact our admissions team to discuss pathways for mature students.
Tuition is $3,900, making it one of the most affordable G3 courses in Ontario. This includes course modules, tuition, on-site tool use, codebooks, and exam fees. For alumni or current students, tuition is discounted to $2,995.
Absolutely. There are still plenty of great provincial grants, private funding options, and bursaries available that can help cover tuition. However, because our 12-week program is designed to get you job-ready fast, it’s too short to qualify for OSAP. For those seeking funding support, please schedule an appointment with your local program advisor.
Complete your classroom and practical training in just 12 weeks at Skilled Trades College. Because our program is streamlined and career-focused, it’s specifically designed to set you up for success so you can challenge the TSSA certification exam and enter the workforce fast.
To earn your G3 gas license, you must achieve a minimum score of 75% on both the theoretical and practical components of the TSSA-administered examination. Our curriculum is specifically engineered to prepare you to meet and exceed this standard.
Yes. We offer flexible scheduling options, specifically evening and weekend classes, to accommodate busy schedules, allowing you to maintain employment while training for the trade.
